Preparation:ย  have each person perform his talent, like dancing, playing a musical instrument, reading poetry, display sports skill, etc.ย

Afterwards, everyone will teach this skill to another member of the family (this may take place over a few days).ย  Then, they can choose to perform with the new talent or share with everyone how the โ€œlessonsโ€ went.ย  Praise everyone for their efforts and not on how well they performed.ย

At the end of the activity, explain that talents or skills can be natural, but can also be learned and enhanced by regular practice. Encourage those who want to pursue their new learned skill.

Another thing we must carefully steward is our talents. What does the Bible say about talents?

Talents are an overflow of the gift of God's grace that enables us to freely use them for His glory. Each one of us has been blessed differently.ย  We may be good with one skill and not be so good on another and it is ok! Whatever skill you have been blessed with, it is a gift from God.ย  What you do with it is up to you.ย  You can waste it away by not using it or by using it to harm others.ย  But you can also continue to learn and improve it and even use it to bless and help others.ย  With the different skills we all have been given, we can use it and work together in the best way to serve God and to bless others.ย ย

2-6 years old

What is your talent that you like the most? Why and how can you use it to make others happy?

7-12 years old

How have you used your skills to be a blessing to others?

Kid to Parent

What talents can we continue to do, and how can we glorify God with it?

Is there something you used to be good at but have stopped doing? Why?ย

Our talents are not just hobbies to make us feel good for ourselves or something to brag about or even to win prizes in contests. God gave us talents so that we can develop them, let it be engaging activities to others and to serve Him and our family and community. May you continue honing your skills and even learn new ones so you may live an impactful life, serving your community.ย ย

Dear God, thanks so much for the talents that You have entrusted me. Help me continue to train and improve them and allow me to use them for the goodwill of men and for Your glory. In Jesusโ€™ name, amen.

Did you know that the word โ€œtalentโ€ actually was a unit of measurement in the ancient world? It was introduced in Mesopotamia and since then has evolved to various interpretations depending on the region and group of peoples.
