Treasure HuntΒ

Materials : Sticky notes with Bible verses about treasures (Parents and guardians this is your chance to search biblical verses and reflect as well. If you don’t have sticky notes, you may use tape.)

Instructions : Scatter within the house the sticky notes, you may stick under tables, chairs, behind objects etc. Just make sure the kids will have an easy, safe, and fun time searching for them. You may end the game after 10 minutes or until all sticky notes are already collected, and the one with the most sticky notes wins a prize from you (simple treat or activity).

Collect all notes, including the ones they did not find, and let each one read the verses around and share what they understand from it.

Are treasures good? Bad? How do we become good stewards of the treasures that God has given us? Let’s look at what the Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:17-19.

So, where is your treasure? It is not necessarily in material wealth but more in being able to steward the things you have been given or blessed with.Β Learning how to properly manage your wealth and being humble and generous at the same time can be a daunting task. God knows this, He knows how easy greed seeps into the hearts of men. So how can we do this? When we can recognize that your real treasure is God, stewarding earthly wealth becomes easier.Β It opens our hearts to more generosity and keeps our eyes on God, our real treasure.Β

What are your treasures? Why do you value them so much?

Beside material treasures, what do you think are immaterial treasures? How can you make good use of them?

Kid/s to Parent:

How can we treasure God?

Treasures come in all shapes, sizes, and values. While many normally consider their treasure to be their material wealth, treasure can come in different forms - like wisdom, skills and abilities, words.Β Whatever treasure you can find within you, learn to use it wisely. Learn to share it with others generously.Β Β

Dear God, give us a grateful heart with whatever You have entrusted to us. Teach us to be wise with our resources and to be generous to those who are in need. Make us a good steward of Your bounty that we will remember not to put our focus on what we have, but to always put our hope in You, God. Most of all, help us to use what you have entrusted to us for your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Did you know that there are rich and wealthy people in the Bible? Here are some of them:Β

Abraham - Genesis 13 says he became very wealthy, so prosperous that the land could not support his family, forcing him and his nephew Lot to go their separate ways.Β Β

Isaac - Abraham’s son, Isaac was equally blessed by God. He continued to prosper even in famine (Genesis 26).Β Β

Job - His wealth during his early life was described in Job 1.Β And even after all that he had gone through, God blessed him even more in Job 42.Β

Solomon - God blessed Solomon with immense wealth (2 Chronicles 1).Β His wealth was so great and vast that leaders from far away nations visited him just to see it for themselves (2 Chronicles 9)Β
