I hope you found the 5 differences between the 2 pictures of Bob! As you noticed, even if some of the details on his face and clothes are different, somehow you still know itโs the same boy. It is still Bob! Now how about if it is us who have some blemish in our skin? Would God see us differently?
Letโs find out in our Bible story today in Luke 5:12-15.ย
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, โLord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.โ
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. โI am willing,โ he said. โBe clean!โ And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, โDonโt tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.โ
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.ย
Even if the man was covered with skin disease, Jesus touched him. Jesus saw him as a man who needs healing and someone He also loves. Itโs a good reminder for us that God does not show favoritism on everyone he loves, in whatever skin color, skin type or physical appearance that person may be. And as we are disciples of Jesus, we look to His example on how to love others and also ourselves.

Parent to Kid/s:
2-6 years old
-Look at yourself in the mirror.ย How would you describe yourself?ย (You may help your youngster think of descriptive words like tall, dark-skinned, short hair, small eyes, etc)ย
- Think of your friend and find words that can describe him too.ย
7-12 years old
Have you ever seen someone with blemishes on their face or on their skin? ? How do you treat them? Knowing how Jesus treats everyone, do you think you treat them the way Jesus would treat them?ย
Kid/s to Parent:
Was there a time that you had many skin blemishes? How did it feel and how did God help you to overcome your sad feelings about it?
Our world today puts so much importance on how a person looks so that people who look good according to the worldโs standards often have an advantage over others.ย But what an assurance to know that Jesusโ love for us is not dependent on how we look.ย
How can we love others the way Jesus loved them?

Dear God, thank You for loving us in whatever shapes, color or sizes we are. We are sorry for sometimes judging others based on their physical appearance and we pray that You give us the wisdom to treat them all the same. In Jesusโ name, amen.

According to the World Health Organization, โLeprosy is likely transmitted via droplets, from the nose and mouth, during close and frequent contact with untreated cases. Untreated, leprosy can cause progressive and permanent damage to the skin, nerves, limbs, and eyes.โ
But thanks to medical discoveries, this disease is now treatable. In fact, More than 16 million leprosy patients have been treated over the past 20 years and some countries have reported zero leprosy already.
Itโs good that this skin disease finally found its cure! But there are still other skin diseases that are experienced by people and hopefully, when we see them, with proper precaution we will love them, just as Jesus did.
